Shortbread Cookies

Norwegian Mørkaker

This recipe for Shortbread Cookies - Norwegian Mørkaker are another great traditional recipe from Norway that my sister-in-law, Hjalma has given me.

Hjalma bakes the best cookies. This week she is visiting my daughter who now lives in the DC area. They will be baking these goodies along with other traditional Norwegian Christmas cookies.

Ingredients:
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
2/3 cup sugar
2-1/2 cups flour

Preparation:
Blend butter and sugar until white and creamy. Add flour gradually until well blended.

Chill dough some and place on wax paper and form a 2" roll. Place in fridge to complete cooling. It will be easier to cut when dough is completely cold.

Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on all sides of the outside of cookie roll.

Cut into 1" slices and place on cookie sheets. Bake at 375° F. for 10 minutes.

Cool cookies completely before placing in air-tight tin.
